Pierce Brown - Red Rising
Red Rising by Pierce Brown
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Goddamn this book is so easy to read AND so hard to read at the same time. I think this is one of the best books I have ever read (and I’m still reading).
The book is so great and easy to read because it moves fast - the book is dynamic. Lots of things happen really quickly and it’s interesting all the time.
But at the same time it is hard to read because it shows the bad aspects of humanity. The book is tough to read because it has no filter and no limit to the agony we see some of the horrible people impact upon others.
I have read grimdark books and I feel this is even darker than the worst of them. And I think I am starting to know why - it’s not the scope of the violence, but rather how the emotions and effects are described. Pierce Brown really is a master of describing scenes in a way that makes the reader feel for the characters - in both the good and the bad situations.
